Terrorists of the Future
Hello Dear Friends, For me--this incomprehensible event began on Monday, the day before the WTC and Pentagon were attacked. It was late afternoon on Monday, before the school bus arrived....thunder
and lightning was displaying itself off in the distance and my doorbell rang.
Two young children presented themselves, a boy age 11 and a girl age 9. They were holding pamphlets and weeping/crying. As I opened my door, they rushed in, and sat right down on my steps. They were "Christians" they said, and had just been threatened by my neighbor, who threw them off her property with mighty anger and a threat to call the police. They asked me if my neighbor was Catholic. I told them I didn't make it a habit to talk about religious beliefs with my neighbors. (But in fact, I knew my neighbor was Jewish and her son Joshua and my daughter Kalin love to compare what they know about Moses and other "characters" from the Old Testament). They told me they didn't believe Catholics were Christians.......because they celebrated Mary. They said Catholics were going to hell, and so was my neighbor. They asked me if I was Christian, and I said I was a Buddhist. (I am such a trouble maker I know, but I hold Jesus and Buddha, and Mary for that matter in the same high regard, and in that moment, I did not want to mix in my spiritual love for Jesus with their notions of Christianity.) They didn't know about Buddha. They wanted to know who came first, Buddha or Jesus, and if Buddha performed any miracles.(They were sizing up the two, I surmised) When I said Buddha taught more about how to live a life with compassion and love for oneself and others than about miracles they said............. I was going to go to hell. And they seemed to feel really bad about it. They kept repeating that Jesus was the only savior, Jesus was the only one. They started crying again. I told them that if Jesus suddenly appeared right here right now, I thought that he would say "love your neighbor as yourself, honor your Mother Mary, and follow the teachings (that lead us back to god) not the teacher". When I told them it was time to go, they gave me some pamphlets to read (scripture), and a booklet that was only for my husband to read (on "The Return to Patriarchy"), and they left. I immediately went to see my neighbor who said these two had been spewing hatred about hell and damnation in front of her children, and she got frightened. And I said, "there goes tomorrow's terrorists"............not realizing what was to come.
